Local Government Projects

We are senior practitioners with considerable knowledge of local authority and committee legislative requirements, as well as considerable experience communicating with politicians, committees and decision makers in both formal and informal settings. We bring our breadth and depth of experience and knowledge to a wide range of local government projects particularly in the Canterbury region.

Our local government work includes:

RESOURCE CONSENTS

We work on all aspects of the consenting process, from preparing and lodging applications for Councils and acting as the reporting officer through to decision making. We are aware that consents require extensive collaboration and input from interested parties and ensure that every aspect of a project is considered to achieve good results.

PLAN CHANGES

There are often times when plans do not take into account changing circumstances or new ways of doing things. We work with local government to prepare appropriate plan changes to meet new needs. Our depth of experience with the plan change processes is considerable, giving us the confidence to be able to deliver the results you require.

POLICY ANALYSIS

We analyse and review existing and proposed policy documents, as well as develop and evaluate indicators to measure the success of policy documents and their implementation strategies. We have developed and measured indicators for the regional land transport strategy and undertaken an evaluation of the implementation success of the Canterbury regional hazardous waste management strategy. We have also worked for territorial authorities developing submissions and presenting evidence on planning documents of the Canterbury Regional Council.

PRESENTATIONS, ADVICE AND MEDIATION

We are often called upon to make presentations to council and committee meetings. Some of our more recent presentations include the presentation of draft submissions to the Waitaki District Council, the Hurunui District Council and the Mackenzie District Council, as well as presentations on natural resource issues to regional committees and councils.

We also provide advice on projects with short timeframes, services where conflicts of interest arise, and assist Councils in Environment Court mediation processes. We have provided advice and assistance to Environment Canterbury, Nelson City Council, Waimakariri District Council, Selwyn District Council and the Timaru District Council on a range of different issues.
